Zamboanga: Dalipe to issue EO on reversion to 2-way traffic scheme, truck ban

The Zamboanga City Traffic Operations Management (ZCTOM) Committee convened Friday, July 29, to address traffic woes brought about by various infrastructure projects in anticipation of full face-to-face operations in schools and workplaces.

Upon instructions from Mayor John Dalipe, the Office of the City Administrator presided the meeting which included councilor VP Elago and representatives from the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) as well as the transport, business and industrial groups.

The ZCTOM resolved that the Zamboanga-Labuan road along San Jose Gusu will revert back to a two-way traffic scheme following the revelation earlier this week of the termination by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) central office of the road widening project in the said throughway due to unresolved right-of-way problems with some land owners.

The city government is set to request from the national government the revival of the said undertaking and the reallocation of funds so as not to leave the project incomplete.

The group likewise agreed to modify the implementing hours of the truck ban in the city to be enforced as soon as it gets the nod of the local council. Under the revised truck ban, when approved, cargo trucks of more than five (5) gross weight tonnage (GWT) are prohibited from plying major roads from 6am to 8am and 4pm to 7pm on weekdays excluding holidays and weekends.

In addition, a traffic scheme was devised to alleviate the traffic situation in Barangay Tetuan resulting from an ongoing drainage project. An executive order detailing the said system will subsequently be issued.
