Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Zamboanga City – Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) placed the Station Commander of Zamboanga City Police Station 7 on “administrative relief” following the viral video that circulated on social media yesterday, July 23, 2020 involving a police officer who restrained an evading rider.
PBGEN. JESUS D CAMBAY, JR, Regional Director, PRO9 said that he already directed PCOL THOMAS JOSEPH I MARTIR, City Director of Zamboanga City Police Office to cause the administrative relief of PMAJ JIVERTSON PELOVELLO, Station Commander of Zamboanga City Police Station 7 to give way to the ongoing investigation.
“His administrative relief is part of our procedure to give way to impartial investigation free of any influence by reason of office or position. It is unfortunate that the viral video seems to suggest brutality or application of unreasonable force disproportionate to subdue a semmingly cooperative suspect”, he added.
PBGEN. CAMBAY JR pointed out that the video posted may not have captured the whole story, hence, the conduct of investigation.
The Regional Director assured the public that the PNP which is a professional organization always accords suspects under custody with proper protection and utmost respect for human rights. The PNP organization never tolerate its police personnel who performed their duty beyond what is being laid down in the PNP operational procedure.
