Mayor Khymer Olaso commended Zamboangueño youth athletes for their strong performances in national wushu and women’s softball competitions in April 2026 during the flag-raising ceremony at City Hall on Monday, May 4.
The city government cited the athletes for bringing pride to Zamboanga City, highlighted by Team Zamboanga’s second overall finish in the Philippine Sports Commission Wushu National Championship held April 11 to 18 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, and the women’s softball team’s second runner-up finish in the Little League Philippines Series staged April 17 to 25 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
In the wushu competition, gold medalists were Razzel Toribio, Carla Bernardo, and Alniza Salazar, followed by silver medalists Jaron Kyle Delos Reyes, James Dan Rey Manalo, Rhazel Recto, Rojane Alipaw, and Rachelle Limen. Lionary Marquez secured a bronze medal, contributing to the team’s overall standing.
The wushu athletes were coached by Oscar Cabig, Kenneth Pico, and Kristina Cassandra Solano, whose guidance supported the team’s performance in the national meet.
Also commended were members of the women’s softball team who finished second runner-up, namely Princess Pora, Lyza Santiago, Chylian Tiffany Oliveros, Khayla Freirez, Lucille Shane Col, Hermz Jamie Solis, Principel Tagulalac, Ziah Nicole Bernardo, Fritzie Aissa Ignacio, Eljen Mae Gambuta, Sherolyn Ramos, Shyra Handa, Dazzlyn Jane Domingo, Triskie Icao, and Casandra Faith Ignacio. They were coached by Alvin Bautista, Marlon Solatorio, and Loidy Pineda.
Mayor Olaso reiterated the city government’s continued support for grassroots sports development and encouraged athletes to pursue further excellence.
Present during the activity were members of the City Council, Chief of Staff and Executive Secretary Celso Lobregat, City Administrator Percival Ramos, Zamboanga City Police Office Director PCol.
