Citing the significance of immunization and its role in improving health and wellbeing, Mayor John Dalipe Wednesday morning joined health authorities in kicking off World Immunization Week, as he personally administered anti-polio vaccines (bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine or bOPV) to children at the Talungun Multi-purpose covered court in San Roque.

Celebrated on the last week of April (April 24-30), World Immunization Week highlights the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases. “The goal of World Immunization Week is for more children, adults – and their communities – to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases, allowing them to live happier, healthier lives.”

This year’s theme is ‘The Big Catch-Up’ and is a joint effort of the Department of Health, World Health Organization, UNICEF and the City Health Office.

The activity is also a prelude to the Measles Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) slated from May 1-31.
