To further strengthen public order at the grassroots level, barangay officials from across Zamboanga City participated in the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) and Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC) performance assessment orientation, held at Grand Astoria Hotel on Wednesday, March 4.
The initiative aimed to guide participants on the standards, indicators and documentary requirements for the upcoming performance assessments of their respective BADACs and BPOCs.
In his message, Mayor Khymer Olaso underscored the dangers posed by illegal drugs and other volatile substances, describing them as among the primary drivers of violence and criminality in communities. He reiterated the city government’s full support for barangays in their continuing efforts to eradicate illegal drugs and sustain peace and order initiatives.
The activity was conducted in two separate batches, with 48 barangays attending the morning session and another 50 participating in the afternoon, ensuring full participation. It was organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG-9) Zamboanga City Office in collaboration with the City Government of Zamboanga.
Beginning next week until last week of March 2026, the DILG-9 City Office, together with the local police, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-9), and the Liga ng Mga Barangay, will spearhead on-site assessments. The evaluations will focus on compliance with national guidelines, council functionality, implementation of anti-drug and peace and order programs, and the completeness of required reports and supporting documents.
The performance assessment forms part of continuing efforts to strengthen accountability mechanisms and ensure the barangay councils remain proactive and responsive in addresses drug-related concerns and maintaining community safety.
