The police in Zamboanga City was directed to thoroughly investigate the recent spate of shooting incidents in the city despite the pandemic.

Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar wants police authorities to give her report on their investigation on all shooting incidents where a police man and a security of Commission on Human Rights was shot by riding in tandem.

Salazar, who chairs the City Peace and Order Council  (CPOC) and the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) was dismayed on the reported motive of the killing of a security guard, made her direct the police to do thorough investigation.

Initial report showed the motive of the killing of the security guard at Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Office according to police was unjust vexation.  The employees of Commission on Human Rights (CHR) were calling for justice for the guard’s gun slay, early Sunday morning of December 13, 2020 at the premises of their Office.

Salazar said “the Police have to thoroughly investigate the incident,” despite police initial findings indicating it was motivated with unjust vexation.

“The safety and security of every individual is our primordial concern,” the mayor added. “That is why, in every incident, not only because of the pandemic and the Christmas season, but in every incident we have to determine the motive behind,” she stressed.

In the case of the shooting of a policeman while conducting a checkpoint in Curuan district, east of the city, the mayor said, the initial finding showed that the incident had something to do with his functions as a law enforcer.

All shooting incidents, police records show, all perpetrators, remain unidentified and at large. (OIC Roland Ramos, RPN DXXX Zamboanga)
