Zamboanga City – For the nth time, Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar has urged the nearly a million residents of Zamboanga City to help and cooperate with the local government and law enforcers in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“I strongly appeal for everyone to listen and cooperate, follow the guidelines and protocols while your local government is doing everything to manage the pandemic and flatten the curve,” the mayor said in her public address on her Facebook Page. “In God’s will, I still believe that we will be victorious in this fight against Covid19.”
At present, Covid19 cases in the city are increasing at an alarming rate with more than 2000 active cases and over 300 deaths—Christian, Muslim and Lumad Zamboangueños.
“Our isolation facilities are limited and our hospitals are already at full capacity,” the mayor lamented.
She said Covid-9 is dangerous and deadly “especially when it hits our homes and infects members of our families. I also experienced death in our family due to covid – my aunt and uncle died at their old age of more than 90.”
She urged the public to always wear face mask and face shield, observe physical distancing, hand washing and stay at home if there is no essential reason to be outside.
“We are currently rolling out the Covid-19 vaccination program in Zamboanga City. Getting vaccinated is one of the foremost ways we can protect ourselves and get back to a new normal, together with our families,” she said. “Let us all come together and help build a safer and healthier Zamboanga City where our families are free from Covid.”
