Zamboanga City under the administration of Mayor John Dalipe joins the global emergency response platform with the launch of its 911 Local Call Center in a short but fitting program Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30, at the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).
The three-digit telephone number “9-1-1” has been designated as the “Universal Emergency Number” that gives the public fast and easy access to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
Mayor Dalipe, who spearheaded the launch, hailed the initiative as a life-saving platform that ensures “help is just a call away” for every Zamboangueño.
“It presents a significant step forward in improving public safety and emergency preparedness. We encourage everyone to spread the word, familiarize with the new 911 system, and use this service responsibly. Together, let’s make Zamboanga City a safer place for all,” Dalipe echoed the message.
The 911 connects callers to a PSAP dispatcher based at CDRRMO who then routes the call to the appropriate emergency services. It is the number to call for emergencies, potential emergencies, or when an emergency is about to happen. (Vic Larato)
