Cagayan de Oro – The Cagayan de Oro Special Task Force for Water Supply and Distribution, presided over by co-chairpersons Majority Floor Edgar Cabanlas and City Legal Officer Atty. Kenneth Tamala, met on Wednesday afternoon in a closed-door meeting at the City Council conference room where it discussed the city’s contingency plans and measures for submission and presentation to City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy.
Early last month, Mayor Uy created the task force purposely to ‘study, review and submit recommendations’ on the possible interventions of the city government so as to avert the looming water crisis in Cagayan de Oro City, a possible scenario if the ongoing conflict between the COWD, and its bulk water supplier, Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Supplier (COBI), is still unresolved.
COBI has threatened to cut off its bulk water supply to COWD on April 12 if the COWD fails to pay its alleged unsettled payments to COBI worth P426 million.
