Davao City:  Hundreds of residents from Calinan partake the Filipino fave pork lechon in a boodle fight jointly sponsored by the Calinan Poblacion officials, meat vendors, and hog raisers on Thursday.

The lechon boodle fight was organized to promote that pork meat consumption remains safe following the recent African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in the three Calinan villages.

The event themed “Karneng Baboy sa Davao Luwas Kaunon! ASF Wagtangon (Pork Meat in Davao, safe for consumption! Eradicate ASF)” was also attended by City Veterinarian Dr. Cerelyn Pinili, the chief of City Health Office (CHO) Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, barangay officials, and sponsors.

Calinan Poblacion Barangay Captain Urisicio Mantiza Ungab said that due to ASF people no longer buy pork even it is still safe for consumption. That is why the barangay council decided to hold an event such as the lechon boodle fight, he added.

“The barangay council planned to have a boodle fight to show to the public, to show to the people of the barangay, and to show the people of Davao City that pig, especially lechon baboy, is safe to eat,” Ungab stressed.

Dr. Pinili in her speech said that pork meat consumption is safe given that the meat vendors have secured the Veterinary Health Certificate.

Dr. Villafuerte also agreed, however, warned everyone to take caution especially those that have hypertension.

The event was sponsored by the City Mayor’s Office, Teculo farm, Pigrolac, Calinan Barangay Council, Calinan Meat Vendors Association, Eve’z Lechon, Agriside, Office of the Congressman Ungab, Pilmico, Dumandan Family, Lifarmco, and Lopez Farm. CIO
