Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD 9 information officer told RPN DXXX, the two senior citizens aged 100 years old,  received their benefits are all females from barangays La Paz and Guiwan in Zamboanga City.

DSWD 9 together with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the President of the Office of the Senior Citizens Association handed over the P100,000 cash gift and the letter of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte pursuant to RA 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016.

The Filipino Centenarians Act or Republic Act 10868 grants ₱ 100,000 to people 100 years old and above through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

This is also one way of showing gratitude and importance to these centenarians who once served the country.

Earlier this month, the Local Government of Zamboanga also extended a counterpart cash gift of ₱ 50,000 to these two senior citizens.

Salvador reminded, that these money given by the government must be used for the senior citizens to take care of them and not for other purposes. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
