Two wounded personnel of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) were commended recently for their bravery after engaging in two separate clashes with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last week.
Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) pinned the medals to the two soldiers while they were confined in a private hospital here.
Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Flores, acting 62nd IB commander, said they appreciated the recognition given by the 303rd IBde to the gallantry of the wounded soldiers in combat and commitment in protecting the innocent civilians against the armed rebels.
Flores also said he is grateful to the military troopers for their support and immediate action in saving their injured colleagues in the frontline.
On August 14, the two wounded soldiers were transported via a military chopper from Barangay Sandayao, where two clashes erupted between the government forces and the NPAs while they were pursuing the latter, following a clash in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on August 13.
The Guihulngan clash resulted in the neutralization of an alleged rebel, and rescue of two female minors who were allegedly recruited by the armed group to be part of their revolutionary movement.
Meanwhile, Flores said the wounded soldiers were already discharged from the hospital. “They are motivated and eager to return to duty,” he added.
