THPAL and NAC with the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte completes 2023 Medical and Surgical Mission

The Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation in partnership with Nickel Asia Corporation subsidiary companies (Taganito Mining Corporation, Hinatuan Mining Corporation, Cagdianao Mining Corporation) with the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, completed its 2023 Medical – Surgical Mission (MSM) held at Surigao del Norte Provincial Hospital.

The activity is manned by 78 foreign and local doctors and nurses headed Dr. Robinson Baron and Dr. Archie La Madrid supported by the manpower pool of the

Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Maria Isabel B. Makinano and the SDN Provincial Hospital medical and administrative staff headed by Dr. Jamallodin Demao.

A total of 330 patients were operated. 158 cases were major operation and 172 for minor operation and 340 patients were attended during the medical consult at Barangay Taganito, Claver, Surigao del Norte. This is aside from the minor operation and consult done in the Province of Dinagat Island.

Surgical cases catered during the MSM were conditions related to goiter, cleft Lip/palate, hernia, hemorrhoids, gall bladder stone, ureter and bladder stone, orthopedic cases, myoma, uterine prolapse, cervical mass, breast mass, soft tissue mass found in other parts of the body.

The Governor himself visited the patients on February 14, 2023 to show his support to the patients and to all those involved in the MSM and to extend a token of rice to the patients. Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers expressed his positive impression to the partnership undertaking between the government and the private companies.

He was grateful that there are companies who can support and extend their financial capabilities to those who don’t have the luxury of finances for their surgical operation in order to live well and enjoy the normal life without illnesses. He wished to have the Medical – Surgical Mission often to ease the people of Surigao del Norte of their health problems.

On the other hand, Levie Conte of Socorro, 24 years-old who has been carrying the weight of his swelling neck for 7 years said, in his dialect that, “Lisod ang amo kahimtang ma’am, tungod kay pobre rami, nagpa check-up ko sa hospital unya gipaandam

mi ug 200,000 para sa operasyon. Apan karon nagpasalamat gajud ako na natabangan ako sa kalisod sa ako tagbati na 7 years na nako gi-agwanta. Dakong pagpasalamat sa THPAL ug NAC sa inyong serbisyo ug paghatag ug higayon nga kami makatagamtam sa maayong panlawas”.

This activity is for the Surigaonons who are in need of surgical experts and facilities who would provide relief of their ailments, free of charge and free medicines for their full recuperation. This likewise served as an enhancement of skills of our local medical team at SDN Provincial Hospital who would take over the post operation care of the patients and in preparation for the hospital upgrading of services.
