One of Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation’s community commitments is to promote well-being, healthy lifestyles, and sustainable communities. The company facilitated the Volunteer Community Health Worker Training for the Indigenous Peoples Community of Brgy. Urbiztondo, Claver, Surigao del Norte last May 24 – 26, 2023 at Pastoral Center, Claver, Surigao del Norte.
The Mamanwa Volunteers play a vital role and are front-liners who can provide health care services for the tribe. The key objective of the training is to equip and train them in basic life support and first aid so that they can assist members of their community. Basic and major equipment were also introduced to them like a sphygmomanometer, oximeter, and others. The IPs undergo basic training programs on collecting vital statistics, maintaining basic records, and assisting in nutrition education, feeding, and immunization at the Health Center. Part of their training is assisting in family planning services, sanitation, and hygiene.
Dr. Landley Chua the Municipal Health Officer of the Municipality of Claver conveyed the importance of the training. He can see the eagerness of the IPs to participate and be part of the said training as they will be able to learn and widen their knowledge specifically on basic first aid. He also thanks THPAL for the constant support and importance to IPs and their basic health needs.
Ms. Elvira Las Pinas – ComRel Supervisor highly encouraged the IPs to promote well-being and continue to invite everyone in the community to participate in healthcare activities and programs to have a well and progressive community.
Mary Grace Patac expressed her gratitude to the facilitator and trainers for giving them an avenue to learn especially basic first aid and vital signs for them to share and help with the members of their tribe. “Daghan kami natun-an ug kani madala ug makatabang na kami sa komunidad aron sa among mga panglawas nga panginahanglan.”
