Surigao: RD Caramat Jr orders probe on death of two woodcutters shot in a mountainous part of Surigao del Norte

Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Butuan City – Police Brigadier General ROMEO M CARAMAT JR, PRO13 Director, ordered an in-depth investigation into the death of two woodcutters who were found lifeless in the mountainous area of Sitio Mat-i, Brgy. Matin-ao, Mainit, Surigao del Norte last Friday, April 8.

RD CARAMAT JR vowed that Mainit Municipal Police Station (MPS) personnel is on their way to conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the culprits and motive of the killing.

A call from Punong Barangay Alberto Odtojan of Brgy. Matin-ao in Mainit town around 3:00 PM informing Mainit MPS led to the recovery of two lifeless bodies in the above location.

The initial investigation revealed that the two male cadavers were lying on the ground wearing pants, sweatshirts, and boots.

As per post mortem examination result conducted by Dr. Jessie U. Aguillera, Rural Health Officer of Mainit, both have gunshot wounds on their body, and near the cadavers where they lay were two black backpacks.

Citing a report from Mainit MPS, the two lifeless bodies were blood-related father and son.

The wife’s victims identify them as Jose Madelozo, 50, while her son Junnry Madelozo, 28.

Allegedly, the two victims were residents of Brgy. Mayag, Sison in Surigao del Norte, left their house to look for an area of reed woods as both work as woodcutters in their area.

“With the identification of the two victims, I already instructed the investigators to exhaust all efforts to identify the culprits as soon as possible and hold them accountable for the crime they have committed,” says RD CARAMAT JR.
