LGU-Del Carmen Benchmarked in Masungi Georeserve at the upland area of Baras, Rizal for Tourism Development in Siargao.
The Legislative Department of the Local Government Unit of Del Carmen together with Mayor JR Coro, conducted a Benchmarking Activity in the Masungi Georeserve for Siargao Peak (soon to be the new tourist spot in Siargao) Tourism Management and Private led Conservation Initiative.
The meeting placed emphasis on:
- Understanding the Development of a Mountain Trail
- The Value of Story Telling and Branding
- Opportunities for PPP as per Masungi Experience
LGU-Del Carmen discussed then with the Trustees of Masungi Georeserve Ann and Billie Dumaliang, regarding the value of Science, Partnerships, Community and Conservation as new strategies for sustainable development.
The presentations and discussions on the Masungi Georeserve management and its proposition are based on its level and measurements as a UNESCO Geopark, while LGU-Del Carmen is also proposing for PAMO-SIPLAS (Protected Area Management Office – Siargao Island Protected Landscapes and Seascapes) to pursue and achieve the UNESCO GeoPark Recognition and Framework through conservation, education, interpretation and nature-based tourism in Del Carmen.
