Surigao: Del Carmen operatives seize 7k worth of illegally sawn lumbers; two suspects caught

Police authorities of Del Carmen Municipal Police Station apprehended two illegal loggers. They confiscated different illegally sawn lumbers with a total market value of Php 7,210.00 in Brgy. Cancohoy, Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, last January 23.

Police Colonel Laudemer M Laude, Provincial Director, identified the suspects as Joey Biol Erong, 35, and Alvin Erong, 45, all residents of Brgy. Mahayahay, in Del Carmen town.

The suspects possessed 14 pieces of “Sangay” in different dimensions and 3 2x3x12 “Manga-Manga” with a total volume of 103 board feet and a market value of Php 7,210.00.

Based on the Del Carmen MPS report, at about 4:00 AM, Monday, January 23, while on a roving patrol, operatives intercepted one single motorcycle caught in the act of transporting sawn lumbers. Upon verification, the suspects failed to present pertinent documents to the authorities.

“We are committed to preserving our natural resources and will continue to take action against those who violate our laws. We will continue to monitor and take action against those engaged in illegal logging activities,” said PD Laude.

The arrested suspects will face charges of violating Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.

Del Carmen cops will turn over the confiscated sawn lumbers to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
