Police authorities of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) of SDNPPO successfully arrested a wanted person for illegal drugs last January 16.

Police Colonel Laudemer M. Laude, Provincial Director, identified the suspect as Jarome Portugues Esparrago, 30 yrs old, single, and a resident of Purok-2, Kaskag, Barangay Washington, Surigao City of this province.

The court issued a no-bail arrest warrant for Esparrago on January 13, 2023; with criminal case number 12527 issued by 10th Judicial Region Branch 30 for violating Section 7, Art. II, R.A. 9165, which is the use of dangerous drugs. A person apprehended or arrested who tests positive for the use of any dangerous drug following a confirmatory test.

At around 12:45 PM, the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) of the SDNPPO arrested Esparrago in Barangay Togbungon, Surigao City, while he was working at the housing construction site.

The report revealed that Esparrago’s disobedience to the court order after availing the plea bargain on his drug case is why he was issued an arrest warrant.

“SDN cops will continue to intensify their campaign against all forms of criminality, especially illegal drug use, to prevent people from becoming victims of illegal drug use. We will continue to pursue these wanted individuals to make the province more secure and peaceful,” PD Laude said.

The arrested suspect is now under the custody of the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office, waiting to return his arrest warrant to the issuing court of origin.
