Sulu-Based Abu Sayyaf Group Member Yield In Tawi-Tawi

A member of the dreaded Abu Sayyaf Group operating in Tawi-Tawi,  under Sulu-based sub-leader Hairullah Asbang surrendered to the marine troops in Tawi-Tawi last Friday, Western Mindanao Command reported.

Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., in a press briefer claimed, the JTF in Tawi-Tawi, reported about the surrender of Al-Habi Jundam, a.k.a Victoe Jundam to the Joint Task Force and Tawi-Tawi Provincial Police.

Commander Arturo Rojas, commander of the JTF Tawi-Tawi, in his report said, that the surrender of Al-Habi Jundam, a.k.a. Victor Jundam is a result of the combined efforts of the intelligence operatives of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi and Tawi-Tawi Provincial Police Office, and the operating troops of the Tactical Operations Group SulTaw and the Marine Battalion Landing Teams 12 and 6 under the 2nd Marine Brigade.

“Based on our record, Jundam acted as a security element during the captivity of the following kidnap victims: John Hablo on October 22, 2013; Jin Hua Chen and Yahong Chen on May 2014; and Rolando De Torchio on October 2015. He was also involved in the series of encounters against military troops in Sulu Province,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

The subject personality was subsequently turned over to the local government unit of Tawi-Tawi represented by Province Administrator Hadjimar Matba, Bongao Mayor Jimuel Que, and MILG Tawi-Tawi Officer-In-Charge Cidrimar Maring at 2MBDE headquarters in Marine Barracks Domingo Deluana, Brgy. Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Meanwhile, Col. Rojas said that Al-Habi Jundam handed over one Caliber .30 Garand rifle.

The surrendered personality then underwent custodial debriefing conducted by the Forward Support Medical Team (FSMT-21).

“During the debriefing, Jundam revealed that he was already tired of hiding and he was afraid that he will eventually be the military’s target, thus his surrender,” said Col. Rojas.
