DAVAO CITY – A day after topping anew the Pulse Asia survey for Filipinos’ preferences for President in 2022, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio confirmed she was taking a leave of absence next week, but gave no reason for this. She then advised residents to take caution on that week when the political atmosphere heats up with the filing of candidacies from October 1-8.
She did not say why she was going on leave when she confirmed it on her regular public affairs broadcast over city government-run Davao City Disaster Radio program on Monday. She hinted last week though, that she would take a leave for medical reasons but did not elaborate.
She took a leave of absence on April 6-10 this year and flew to Singapore for “health reasons”.
She cautioned Davao City residents against being swayed by the political fever beginning next week when politicians would be filing their candidacy.
“I would just like to remind all Davao residents that from now until October 9, it will be very noisy for the entire country,” she said.
She said that “what we need to focus on here in Davao City is our Covid-19 response and our vaccination, to continue with our work and business. Let’s focus on that and let’s put on earplugs to drown out the nose,” she said.
Duterte topped the Pulse Asia survey, with 20 percent of the vote, in a poll that reflected for the most part a lot of regional biases and preferences.
She was followed by former senator Bongbong Marcos at 15 percent, closely trailed by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso at 13 percent; and boxing icon and senator Manny Pacquiao at 12 percent.
At fifth is Sen. Grace Poe, 9 percent; Vice President Leni Robredo at 8 percent; Sen. Panfilo Lacson at 6 percent; and Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano at 4 percent.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III topped the vice presidential run, with 25 percent vote share nationwide, versus 14 percent of President Duterte, who has been nominated by the Cusi wing of PDP Laban as its VP bet.
However, in Mindanao, Duterte trounced Sotto with 30 percent versus Sotto’s 10; the NCR pulse mirrored the reverse, going for Sotto with 30 percent versus Duterte’s 13 percent.
Across regions, Duterte took a commanding 47 percent share of the Mindanao vote, while Marcos—known to have a strong base in Luzon, took 28 percent in NCR and 20 percent in Balance Luzon.
Moreno took 19 percent in NCR and 16 percent in Balance Luzon; while Pacquiao, a southpaw from Sarangani, took 21 percent in Visayas and 15 percent in Mindanao.
