Sara Duterte files COC for final mayoral term

DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Saturday turned up late in the Commission on Elections office here to file her certificate of candidacy (COC) for a mayoral slot, her third and final term on that position.

Reports coming out from a closed compound of the Magsaysay Park where the Comelec offices of the three districts are located, said Duterte-Carpio filed her COC at 4:15 pm.  A throng of Task Force Davao soldiers posted at the gate which was closed in the afternoon.

A spokesman for the mayor said her youngest brother, Sebastian, would run for vice mayor but it could not be immediately ascertained if the latter has accompanied her sister to file his COC also.

Meanwhile, Davao Occidental Gov. Claude P. Bautista, national chairman of Ituloy ang Pagbabago Movement 2022, has thanked politicians and supporters to the nationwide “Novena and Caravan” it held to call for the candidacy of Mayor Duterte as President.

“Maraming Salamat po sa ating mga kababayan na sumali sa caravan at misa sa iba’t-ibang simbahan sa buong Pilipinas lalo na sa Sto. Domingo Church sa Quezon City, Basilica del Sto. Niño at Simala Shrine Church sa Cebu City, St. Francis Xavier Parish at San Pedro Cathedral sa Davao City, at sa lahat ng mga simbahan sa buong Pilipinas (Many thanks to our fellow Filipinos who joined the caravan and mass in various churches in the Philippines, especially in Sto, Domingo Church in Quezon City, Basilica del Sto. Niño at Simala Shrine Church in Cebu City, St. Francis Xavier Parish and San Pedro Cathedral in Davao City, and to all the churches in the country),” he said in a statement posted online on Saturday.

“Maraming Salamat kay Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, lahat ng opisyales ng IPM2022, at mga opisyal at miyembro ng Hugpong Para kay Sara at Sara All Philippines na dumalo sa misa at caravan upang ipaabot kay Mayor Inday Sara Duterte na tanggapin niya ang panawagan ng sambayang Pilipino na tumakbo na siya bilang Pangulo (Many thanks to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and to all the officials of IPM2022, and the officers and members of the Hugpong Para kay Sara at Sara All Philippines who went to mass and the caravan to send the message to Mayor Inday Sara Duterte to accept the call of the nation to run as President),” it added.

“Alam nating lahat na walang ibang mas makapangyarihang sandata kung hindi ang panalangin. Ipagpatuloy natin ang panawagan at panalangin para kay Mayor Inday (We know that there’s nothing more powerful as prayer. Let us continue to call and pray for Mayor Inday),” he said.
