On December 16, 2023, around 2:35 AM, this office received a cellular phone call from PSSg Edison R Liray (Beat Patroller PNCO of Brgy. Taft, Surigao City) informing that there was an alleged male dead body who was shoot to death while asleep inside Sanchez Residence in Borromeo corner P. Reyes Streets, Brgy. Taft, Surigao City perpetrated to by unidentified male perpetrator who allegedly fled to unknown direction after the incident.
Personnel from this office proceeded to the reported place and found a bloodily lifeless body on top of a bed after being shot to death identified as BENJAMEN LEROS SANCHEZ, 55 years old, male, married, Filipino, high school level, jobless, resident of the said place.
Investigation revealed that at more or less 9:00 PM of December 15, 2023, at the roadside area outside the said place of incident, said victim had a heated argument with a male person believed to be the manager of the Fast Cat ticketing outlet besides the place of incident relative to the congestions and noise observed in the area.
As the heated argumentations continued, another male unidentified suspect identifying himself as police officer from Butuan City, wearing black t-shirt, with mustache, interfered angrily and thereon threatened the victim to kill.
Consequently, after hours, the male roommate companion of the victim went on sleeping. Afterwards, said roommate heard two (2) successive bursts of gunfire of an unknown caliber of firearm and noticed the victim blooded while on his bed.
The scene was processed by a team from SDN Forensic Unit led by PSSg Jeffrey C Hinotan and recovered two (2) empty fired bullets of calibre .45 under the bed. Request for Post Mortem Examination was made to determine the cause of his death.
The cadaver now lies at Inteng Aldonza Funeral Services located in Borromeo Street, Brgy. Taft, Surigao City subjected for post mortem examination.
Hot pursuit operation is being conducted by this office to the fleeing suspect/s. (Jeanil Tubo Saraus, Police Executive Master Sergent, Freedom of Information In-charge of Surigao City Police Station)
