Red Cross continues to send urgent aid to Typhoon Odette-affected communities

With super typhoon Odette (Rai) causing extensive damage in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, affecting more than 200,000 individuals, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) led by its Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon, remains true to their mantra of being always first, always ready, and always there as they continue to respond urgently to reach out to the most affected communities.

On December 19, 2021, together with the local government, the PRC volunteers and staff on the ground continue their assessment, clearing operations, debris clearing, water distribution, purchase of food items, and hot meals distribution. At the same time, last Friday, December 17, 2021, the PRC National Headquarters has sent a humanitarian caravan now on its way to Surigao del Norte and Bohol, made up of two food trucks, a water tanker, an ambulance, a payloader, 6 wheeler truck containing shelter tool kits, and a generator set, and a 6×6 truck.

“ Walang pagod at handang tumulong ang ating mga Red Cross staff at volunteers upang mas mapabilis ang ating pagresponde sa mga nasalanta ng typhoon Odette,” emphasized Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon.

In Cebu, volunteers and staff on the ground are now distributing water in the evacuation centers in Naga, driving a payloader to conduct clearing operations at Brgy. Capitol Site is clearing debris along Escario Street, Cebu City, and deployed assessment teams in southern provinces of Cebu.

In Southern Leyte, teams are now assessing with the local government in Pacific Area and Panaon Area. In Maasin City, volunteers are also conducting clearing operations and assessments while deploying an ambulance to cater to a patient.

Meanwhile, in Bohol, two teams are mobilized for partial clearing and continuation of damage assessments in the Municipality of Loon, Calape, Tubigon, and Maribojoc. Two teams of volunteers are also deployed in the northern part of Bohol assisting the local government for search and rescue operations and distributing hot meals targeting 100-120 individuals in the first district.

More hot meals target to be distributed today in the Municipality of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental and Sitio Dumagook Sta. Cruz Claveria, Brgy. Hinigdaan El Salvador, Tagoloan, and Balinsangag in Misamis Oriental.

PRC also targets to distribute food items, and potable water targeting 250 families in Brgy. Colorado, and Poblacion in Agusan del Norte and continues to conduct re-assessments with the local government in Gingoog for possible assistance
