Public Safety Security Command Center Welcomes Holy Week Closure Of Resorts In Davao City

02Davao City – A top official of the Public Safety and Security Command Center welcomed Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s order to close temporarily the coastal and inland resorts of the city from April 1 to 4, 2021.

Retired Lt. Col. Angel Sumagaysay, chief of the PSSCC revealed that they are covering as far as the farthest and remotest barangays in the city to prevent people from crowding.

“This is a big help in our effort to control the people from crowding during the pandemic, knowing that the convergence of people is one of the causes of infection and the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” he said.

Sumagaysay stressed that the measure is temporary and people can go back to the old ways once the situation normalizes.

He warned that any one who violates this order will be charged accordingly.  Sumagaysay expressed hope that the resort managements and the people will follow the law.

“I hope people will understand that it is meant to preserve the welfare of everybody,” he said.

He pointed out that during the pandemic, people will not spend Holy Week in jail and will understand that the old ways are inappropriate while the COVID-19 virus prevails in the environment.

Sumagaysay thanked the Archdiocese of Davao for allowing the restrictions and issuing advisories during the Holy Week Commemoration with emphasis on social distancing whereby disallowing outdoor traditions like Visita Iglesia, washing of the feet, stations of the cross, Veneration of the Cross, procession of the Santo Entiero, Easter Vigil and the encounter.

He also thanked the barangay functionaries for sharing the call of reprimanding the people just to make them aware of the restrictions designed to protect public health.

Sumagaysay bared that the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague on the Matina Hills will hold masses, where people are allowed only 50 percent of the venue capacity.

However, he stressed that there will be no stations of the Cross and people who would gather per station are discouraged to do so.

He called on the police to place a tarpaulin before the stations of the Cross to inform the public that the tradition is discouraged at this time in compliance to social distancing to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Sumagaysay also appealed to parents not to bring their children to the religious ceremonies to protect them from COVID-19 infection.
