Camp Col. Romeo A. Abendan, Zamboanga City – A total of 16 out of 46 police officers assigned as dog handlers of bomb-sniffing dogs who are undergoing the six-month Basic Explosive Detection and Handlers Course conducted the initial capability demonstration of explosive detection dog at PRO IX Multi-Purpose Hall, Camp Col. Romeo A. Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City on August 25, 2020.
The activity is part its six-month period of Basic Explosives Detection Course for K9 and handlers wherein their initial capability were demonstrated to test their progress for the first month and 18 days of stringent training.
During the demonstration, the K9 and its handlers performed various search conduct, such as open search, baggage search, building or room search and vehicle search to detect the odor and presence of explosives. The trained dogs have shown satisfactory performance although there are some have displayed minor imperfections which could be expected considering that they have no yet attained the half duration of the entire training period.
PBGEN. Jesus D. Cambay, Jr., Regional Director, PRO IX said “ we are doing this to increase the confidence level of trained dogs and handlers, our security counterparts from the AFP, Security Agencies and Volunteers”.
“These dogs will detect presence of explosives in suspicious baggage to endure the safety of offices, establishment and populated area”. With this kind of training, we can achieve our vision to make the Zamboanga Peninsula, a better place to live, visit, study and do business”, he added.
