The top official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Calabarzon region has emphasized on Thursday the urgent need for local candidates to take a stand on the conservation of natural resources and forest protection.

DENR Calabarzon Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria, in a news statement, said only 35 percent of the total land area of the Calabarzon region is classified as forest lands. Calabarzon stands for Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces.
