Bacolod City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) unveiled its newly installed radar station in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental recently.

PCG Commandant, Admiral George Ursabia Jr. visited the province and inspected the station situated at Barangay Malabugas on July 8.

PCG District Central Visayas commander Rear Admiral Jose William Isaga and PCG District Western Visayas commander Commodore Hostillo Arturo Cornelio were also present.

The infrastructure allows the PCG to strictly monitor transiting vessels in the area, according to a statement from PCG.

It also further upholds maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, and marine environmental protection, most especially in the Sulu Sea.

Moreover, the PCG intends to construct a search and rescue (SAR) base in the city to intensify maritime SAR in the vicinity waters of the province.

Bacolod City and the province of Negros Occidental will also be having its first PCG radar station at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port, following the groundbreaking rites held last year.

The two-storey building and the tower will be situated in a 500 square-meter lot area donated by the Bredco management, with the support of the local government unit.
