Kiefer Ravena won’t be bringing his act to Japan after the PBA Board ordered the NLEX superstar to honor his contracts with his team and the league.

PBA Chairman Ricky Vargas told a virtual press conferences on Saturday that Ravena has to honor a fresh three-year contract with NLEX which he signed last September as well as the Uniform Player’s Contract (UPC) which binds every player with the PBA.

“The board has decided that Kiefer [Ravena] has to honor his contract with NLEX and with the PBA,” Vargas said. “Philosophy is basically for the sanctity of the contract.”

Ravena through his agent Marvin Espiritu signed a one Season contract with Shiga Lakestars in the Japanese B. League. He will play as an Asian import for the Japanese club.

As an Asian import, Ravena could be receiving a monthly pay that is four times of what he is receiving from NLEX.

His take home pay from NLEX his pegged at the maximum PBA rate of P420,000 a month.

The PBA board, Vargas said, decided releasing against Ravena for fear of establishing a precedent.

“It was very difficult for us to sit through this discussion,” Vargas said. “But we follow strictly the policy of not breaking contracts.”

A buyout option was considered for Ravena, according to Vargas.

“But the consequences could be difficult if they let a foreign team to buy a contract of a player, he said.

Vargas, the team governor of TNT KaTropa, was joined by league PBA commissioner Willie Marcial and vice governor Bobby Rosales of Terrafirma joined Vargas in the press conference.
