A total of 73 farm machines worth P83.8 million were turned over to 43 farmers’ associations in Zamboanga del Sur during a ceremony held on December 3, 2024.

The machines, which include tractors, plows, harvesters, dryers, transplanters, and rice mills, were provided through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).

The event was led by PhilMech Director IV Dioniso Alvindia, with DA-9 Regional Director Engr. Marcos Aves Sr., RAFC Chairman Leonardo Caparida, and Provincial Agriculturist Dante Lao-ay in attendance.

In a video message, Senator Cynthia Villar, a key proponent of the RCEF program, expressed her support for farmers and the importance of mechanization in boosting agricultural productivity. She commended the efforts of PhilMech and local leaders in supporting farmers’ needs.

Governor Victor J. Yu, a strong supporter of agriculture and the national government’s agricultural programs, attended alongside Congresswoman Divina Grace Yu, Vice Gov. Roseller Ariosa and provincial board members.

Governor Yu reaffirmed his commitment to uplifting farmers, emphasizing that agriculture is vital to the province’s growth.

Farmers expressed their gratitude, saying the machines will save time and effort while improving yields.
