Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur – Barangay Cabaluran and Cabaluran Elementary School, this town, now enjoy access to the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Free WiFi initiative.

This is a significant step toward bridging the digital divide, transforming both education and everyday life in this remote community. This service brought much-needed connectivity to students, teachers, and residents alike.

Teacher Aldanica Flor A. Bordalba from Cabaluran Elementary School shared her excitement about the impact of the DICT Free WiFi on their school.

“I’d like to say thank you to DICT for providing our school accessible internet connection. We, the teachers of Cabaluran ES, are very grateful for having this initiative,” she said.

The introduction of free internet has revolutionized the way lessons are delivered, enabling teachers to incorporate more interactive and engaging teaching methods.

“We can now use our smart TVs and present our lessons in more interactive and creative ways. It allows us to open up lines of communication and use the internet to explain curriculum material in a new way, making education more accessible, inclusive, and engaging,” added Bordalba.

The free WiFi service also brings personal benefits to the educators and residents in the community which allows them to stay connected with family members and loved ones, many of whom live far away or work abroad.

“Personally, as a daughter of an OFW and someone who travels 30 minutes on a rough road every day with no internet connection, it was not easy. But now that we have fast internet connection at school, we can stay connected with our families and loved ones anywhere,” Bordalba expressed.

The DICT Free WiFi program is part of the Philippine government’s broader effort to provide digital connectivity to underserved and remote areas, ensuring that no community is left behind in the modern, connected world.
