The province of Negros Oriental has received shelter repair kits from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for distribution to the different local government units (LGUs) in time for the rainy season.

Adrian Sedillo, who heads the province’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), on Thursday said they have also started the distribution of the materials to the towns and cities for their immediate use.

The repair kits consist of spades, pick-axes, crowbars, hammers, hand saws, ropes, nails, and wires, among others, he said.

Each LGU is allocated 10 rainy season repair kits, he added.

The province received a total of 280 rainy season repair kits from the OCD, Sedillo said.

As of Wednesday, the towns and cities that have already received the kits are Basay, Dauin, Sibulan, Amlan, San Jose, Tanjay, and Pamplona.

The tools are to be used for the repair of temporary evacuation sites and shelters, and other disaster-related activities, the DRRMO provincial chief said. (Mary Judaline Partlow PNA, photo by PNA)
