Operations at the city halls of Bago and Talisay, the neighboring cities of Bacolod, were suspended on Thursday to give way for disinfection amid the ongoing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares III said he ordered disinfection after a resident of Bacolod City who tested positive for Covid-19 recently went to the city hall to process a business permit.

“I would like to assure the Talisaynons who recently had transactions at the New City Hall that our employees are compliant with our safety protocols to the best of their ability. Thus, it is highly improbable for the patient to have infected other clients,” Lizares said in a Facebook post.

Business transactions will resume on August 3, he added.

Lizares said strict health protocols are implemented in the building, such as wearing of masks and temperature checks.

“Our employees also make sure that each and every client’s hands are disinfected by spraying an ample amount of alcohol. Inside the New City Hall, strict physical distancing is observed in every office. I would like to assure your safety inside the New Talisay City Hall. You are protected here while you do your transactions,” he said.

In Bago, Mayor Nicholas Yulo ordered the closure of the city hall compound and its offices for decontamination and suspended work for the whole day.

Work will resume on the next working day.

“This is just one of the preventive measures of the city government in ensuring a virus-free City Hall,” Yulo said.

During the disinfection, employees were advised not to report except for medical, disaster risk reduction and management, and market personnel, as well as security and safety groups, garbage collectors, and street sweepers. (Nanette Guadalquiver NDB via PNA, photo by BCPIO)
