Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – Police Regional Office (PRO)-13 ensures that the New People’s Army (NPA) shall face airtight charges for robbing the house of retired teachers in Cortez town, Surigao del Sur.

Around seven heavily armed members of Guerilla Front 30 swooped down on the residence of Caesar T. Bongcayao, 76 years old, and Nelita M. Bongcayao, 77 years old in Brgy. Mabahin around 7:30 PM on July 17, 2021.

The victims were parents of POLICE COLONEL JIBIN M. BONGCAYAO, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management in PRO Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Based on investigation, the perpetrators forcibly entered the premises looking for any firearms possibly left by PCOL. BONGCAYAO. Sensing their efforts became futile, they instead carted away an airgun worth ₱ 8,000.00.

“We assure our people that we will bring these criminals to justice. The NPA members have become notorious criminals and bandits usually targeting civilians as victims for their ruthless and Godless motives,” PRO13 Director PBGEN. ROMEO M. CARAMAT JR. stated.

He also added that the enemies of the state are sowing threats for them to project existence and pursue armed struggle without taking into consideration the condition of their helpless victims like senior citizens.

Investigators have been gathering the pieces of evidence as well as the identity of the NPA members for filing of charges against the latter.

On June 25, 2021, President Rodrigo Duterte slammed the New People’s Army, saying they have become a small bunch of “ragtag bandits” without any ideology.
