Bacolod City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson ordered a 4-day workweek scheme at the provincial capitol amid the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 cases in the province.

Lacson issued a memorandum for the four-day workweek and one day work-from-home scheme for Provincial Government employees effective this week.

Capitol-based offices are open Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed every Friday.

Lacson said that “it is for the interest and exigency of the service and for the protection of the employees of the provincial government.”

The memorandum issued Monday took effect immediately “until revoked or amended in writing.”

Heads of department and offices shall be responsible to assign work to employees under their respective offices, the memo said.

However, the memo said that Provincial Health Office employees, hospital employees and those whose services are required daily, shall make arrangements/work schedules with their employees so that everybody shall enjoy the four-day workweek arrangement.

It added that these arrangements/work schedules shall be submitted to the Human Resource Management Office not later than April 15, 2021.

This is to give a breather to our health workers who needs a “time-out” from the rigors of their job during the pandemic, the memo said.

The memo further said that employees are discouraged from attending mass gatherings.
