Bacolod City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia and City Administrator Em Ang inspect the Midway Referral Facility of Bacolod City in Barangay Alijis yesterday, September 30.

Joining them are OIC-City Health Officer Dr. Edwin Miraflor Jr., and DRRMO head Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan. Both are deputies for medical of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Leonardia ordered that the Midway Referral Facility in Brgy. Alijis be capacitated to handle COVID-19 patients awaiting hospital admission, as well as those who are discharged from the hospital but still need to recuperate, in order to address the present shortage of hospital beds due to the surge of cases in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Ang, who is also the executive director of EOC, said this step-up and step-down care concept or lower level of care will decongest hospitals and cater to more COVID-19 patients.

Doctors will be on call 24/7, and the vital signs of the patients will be closely monitored and started on medication, and in the event of incidents requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the DRRMO shall promptly deploy EMTs and ambulance for immediate transfer of patient to an emergency facility, she added.

During their visit today, Leonardia also met with Midway Facility personnel led by Facility Supervisor Robert Toledo, nurses Jizelle Villafuerte, Hozee Tunao, Ma. Agessa Espuerta, Ana Mae Canete, midwife Analiza Catapia and BHW Glenda Rivera.
