Davao City- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio thanked several individuals who helped in realizing peace in far-flung communities through the PEACE 911 initiative. Mayor Sara acknowledged the assistance extended by Irene Santiago as consultant to the Peace 911, Barangay Captain Jessie Ereja of Barangay Malabog, Marilou Bermudo of the City Social Services and Development Office, Atty. Eliza Lapena of the City Legal Office and focal person of the Peace 911 and Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles.

Duterte-Carpio said it is these people’s hard work and effort which bring about changes in Paquibato District, dubbed once as a rebel stronghold. She said the emergency projects in Paquibato were implemented through their efforts as intervention to the peace and order problem in the area.

“This award goes out to all of them and all the support offices who help Peace 911 make it in Paquibato,” Duterte-Carpio said.

The Peace 911 was initiated after President Rodrigo Duterte cut ties with the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army after the failed peace talks, thus changing its strategy in addressing issues and concerns of insurgency and how it affects the residents of Davao City.

It aims to properly align with existing national policies and local government plans and initiatives in bringing lasting peace and economic sustainability on affected areas such as Paquibato.

At the same ceremony, she also thanked the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for turning over two ambulance vans to the City Health Office. She said one ambulance van will be assigned in Toril Health District and one in Marilog District.

“We now have five ambulances under the City Health Office and three of them were given by the PCSO,” Duterte-Carpio said as she thanked the sweepstakes office for extending help to the city.
