Mayor Rex Oliva delivered the much-anticipated State of Iriga City’s Children Report on November 29, 2024, at the Iriga City Sports Center, Sta. Cruz Sur, during the Children’s Congress.
In his State of the Children Report, Mayor Rex C. Oliva elaborated on the various initiatives and programs aimed at uplifting the lives of Irigueño children. A notable feature of the event was the open forum, which allowed children and representatives from various sectors to directly engage with Mayor Rex, fostering transparency and a sense of inclusion. The dialogue opened a platform for meaningful conversations, addressing the needs and concerns of the younger population.
Adding to the joyous occasion, children were treated to a special visit by the Jollibee mascot, who brought excitement and laughter to the event. To make the day even more memorable, all participating children received free shirts and caps, symbolizing the city’s generosity and care for its young citizens.
Organized by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ms. Maridel Verrosa, the Children’s Congress showcased various activities that celebrated inclusivity and the potential of the city’s youth. Through this event, Iriga City reaffirmed its commitment to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where children can thrive and achieve their dreams.
The program commenced with the welcome Remarks delivered by Hon. Melnan R. Murallo-Asanza, who presented the proposed Child and Youth Welfare Code of Iriga City. The report underscored the city’s significant strides in ensuring the survival, protection, development, and active participation of its young citizens. Key accomplishments from the past year were also highlighted, showcasing LGU-Iriga’s dedication to creating a nurturing and progressive environment for children.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 715 children aged 10-18 from diverse backgrounds, including those from private and public schools, Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities, children with disabilities (PWD), Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials. This diverse representation symbolized the city’s unified approach to inclusivity and progress, ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and valued. The successful culmination of National Children’s Month in Iriga City stands as a testament to the LGU’s unwavering dedication to building a brighter future for its youngest citizens.
