Talisay City, Negros Occidental – Mayor Neil Lizares announced yesterday that he was also tested positive for COVID-19, making him the second mayor who attended the Love Negros fellowship on Sept. 18 to be infected by the virus.
Lizares said he is asymptomatic, stressing also that he is taking every step possible to ensure that he will stay in good health and to recover successfully from the virus.
Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco is now in a private hospital in Bacolod City, after he was also tested positive of COVID-19. But Kabankalan City Public Information Officer Jake Gonzales said that the condition of Mayor Zayco is stable, and there are no signs of complications.
As of September 20, Kabankalan City has 167 active COVID-19 cases.
Lizares said he is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and continue to follow all minimum health standards and protocols for their protection.
The Talisay City Health Office also logged 220 active COVID-19 cases, with Brgy. Zone 12-A having the most number of cases, at 51, in the city.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and other Love Negros members, who attended the fellowship, are now in isolation, pending their RT-PCR testing on September 23.
