Massive petroleum bust: Alegria police unit intercepts 900 liters of contraband petroleum products

Carrying out the proactive operation to suppress charges against violators, police authorities from Alegria Municipal Police Station successfully confiscated the 900 liters of petroleum products which cost Php53,100.00 in relation to violation of Presidential Decree 1865 otherwise known as Illegal Dispensing of Petroleum Products.

Provincial Top Cop, Police Colonel Laudemer M Laude, identified three arrested suspects: an elderly woman, a 61-year-old widow; a 22-year-old laborer, both were residents of Purok 7, Barangay San Juan, Alegria; and a 23-year-old laborer, with known residence at Purok 6, Barangay Pungtod, Alegria town Surigao del Norte province.

Reportedly, around 12:40 AM, authorities from the abovementioned unit station along with the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, swiftly responded to a Barangay Official’s tip who made a call to report the unlawful activity on the alleged illegal dispensing of petroleum products from an unidentified source of fuel tank truck in the vicinity.

During the operation, three suspects were caught by police authorities and intercepted the volume of liters that could have been sold at the market as illegal trading, without license or authority from the Bureau of Energy Utilization office. Substantial evidence was being documented in the area to support the pressing of charges against these individuals who engaged in pernicious practices that were rampant.

The arrest was made under the provisions of Presidential Decree 1865 (PD 1865), which pertains to the illegal trafficking and hoarding of petroleum products. Authorities confiscated a total of 15 containers and three drums of petroleum products from the possession of the arrested individuals the combined volume of the confiscated items amounted to approximately 900 liters, with an estimated value of Php53,100.00 pesos.

“We remain vigilant to respond to any situation, especially when complaints call our attention. May this accomplishment serve as a pillar of example to others, to stop participating in all forms of illegalities, unrecognized barters, illegal trades, and unauthorized dispensing of products. Regardless of the costs you might lose, or how much you may gain, we will enforce our given mandate as the law provides,” PD Laude said.

The arrested suspects and confiscated petroleum products are now under the custody of Alegria Municipal Police Station for legal proceedings and accountability. (Mark James Lisondra)
