Bacolod City – Too early to speculate. This was the reaction of acting Negros Occidental Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer regarding swirling rumors in social media that presidential son, William Vincent “Vinny” Marcos, may run for congressman if the proposed splitting of Bacolod City into two legislative districts is approved.
Ferrer, the personal adviser of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Western Visayas, questioned the source of information. “The person concerned may have even no knowledge about it,” he said, adding that the presidential son never mentioned it in his two visits to Negros Occidental.
The speculations were also bolstered after observers noticed that welcome tarps had his photos, along with First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and his son, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez.
The presidential family attended the recent MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, wherein Vinny and his mother stayed in the city for two days, to be later followed by the President.
“Let’s wait. I cannot speak, in behalf of them. But as of now, there is none,” Ferrer said.
In July this year, the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution recommending approval for the redistricting bill. While proposed bill was filed by incumbent Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya during the 17th and 18th Congress, it did not prosper due to lack of support from the City Council.
Ferrer said it will be known if Vinny will transfer his residence seven months before the election, stressing also that “everyone has the right to do it.”
