Lumad, 3 Others Arrested For VAWC Charges

Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – A man from Mamanwa tribe and three other persons landed behind bars for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act of 2004 in different places in Caraga region Monday (April 12), according to PBGEN. ROMEO M. CARAMAT JR, Police Regional Office 13 regional director.

The accused was identified as 38-years-old Gaga Calinawan Morales of Purok 5, Barangay Camam-onan, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte, a Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit and commonly referred to by its acronym CAFGU.

The Regional Trial Court (RTC), 10th Judicial Region, Branch 29 in Surigao City ordered the arrest of Morales on March 16, 2021 with recommended bail amounting to ₱ 72,000.00 under criminal case number 15342 and ₱ 2,000.00 on criminal case number 15343.

Record showed that Morales accused his wife of gambling and assaulted her in December 2020. He also threatens to kill her which the victim decided to go on hiding.

The accused is now under the custody of Gigaquit Municipal Police Station (MPS) for documentation and proper disposition.

Operatives also apprehended in his residence in Purok 6 Barangay Alambique, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte a retired member of Philippine Army Dionices Sabuero Omandam for RA 9262 around 1:00 PM.

The Warrant of Arrest dated March 24, 2021 issued by RTC 10th Judicial Region Branch 34 in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte. Omandam was able to bail the amount of ₱ 72,000.00 as per recommended by the local court.

Omandam was charged because he wasn’t able to provide the 20% allotment from his retirement benefit to be given to his child where he agreed upon.

Meanwhile, a resident of Sitio Malingin, Barangay Punta Engano was collared by police operatives of Madrid Municipal Police Station armed with a warrant of arrest in Purok 6, Barangay Quirino, Madrid, Surigao del Sur around 3:00 PM.

Regional Trial Court 7th Judicial Region, Branch 5-FC Judge Jose Alfonso M. Gomos of Lapu-Lapu City ordered the arrest of ROCKIE LUAREZ CABADING, 33, separated and seaman by profession. He can bail in the amount of ₱ 2,000.00 for his temporary liberty.

Police agents also clamped down a teacher wanted for alleged violation of Republic Act 9262 that protects women and children from violence issued by the RTC, 10th Judicial Region, Branch 7, Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur dated April 8, 2021.

A ₱ 72,000.00 bail was recommended for Cabading who is now detained at the custodial facility of Talacogon Municipal Police Station (MPS).

He was arrested around 6:40 PM in Purok Macopa, San Isidro, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur by personnel of Talacogon MPS, Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office.

“Physical, emotional, financial and psychological abuse is a form of violence that it is also punishable under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) or the Republic Act 9262,” said RD CARAMAT JR.

He assures the community that PNP Caraga, under the guidance of Chief PNP Police General DEBOLD M. SINAS, will enforce the law that would protect the women and their children against violence.
