Joint elements from different law enforcement units collared two male tourists from Quezon City and confiscated 37Marijuana dried leaves in bricks and tubular forms with an estimated total value of PHP4, 440,000.00 on January 13, 2020.
Both suspects were identified as Kian Cortez, 22 years old, married, a resident of Quezon City and Jose Raymundo, 20 years old, single, also a resident of Quezon City.
Initial investigation reveals that at around 1:40 PM, the same date, personnel from the Provincial Intelligence Branch received information from a source that both suspects were allegedly carrying illegal contraband (particularly marijuana) onboard a bus they boarded from Tinglayan bound to Tabuk City.
Upon receiving the report, said joint personnel quickly established a mobile checkpoint.
Having spotted the checkpoint, both suspects attempted to flee but were discovered by the police and were apprehended.
Cortez claims that he and his companion were transporting said narcotics and refused to identify who ordered them to collect the drug or their source.
Both suspects are now under the custody of the PNP and are awaiting proper charges to be filed against them.
Police Major Richard Gadingan, Public Community Relations Officer, said that the arrest is proof that the police will not stop its operation to rid, not just in the province but the whole country, of the prevalent drug problem and other criminal activities.
