LGU Iriga and employees of City Health Office, health workers, joins the opening of the World TB Day

The world celebrates World TB Day. This is a day dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of tuberculosisA deadly disease that affects millions of people around the world. In Iriga City, the City Government of Iriga, through the City Health Office, in partnership with various hospitals and organizations, held a program and a motorcade at the Iriga City Ceremonial Grandstand to mark this special day.

The opening program started around 8:30AM and was attended by City Councilors Hon. Katherine Dominique C. Lagrimas and Hon. Dandreb N. Abonite, Dr. Ronald G. Pereña and employees of the City Health Office, health workers at various hospitals in the city, government officials, barangay officials, civil society organizations, and members of the community.

Hon. Lagrimas, Chair of the Committee on Health and Sanitation in the Sangguniang Panlungsod, highlighted the importance of the celebration. She also emphasized the need for continued efforts in the fight against TB.

After the short program, the motorcade kicked off with a convoy of vehicles. They drove around the Central Business District, holding banners to raise TB awareness. The motorcade arrived at the Iriga City ICT Building. Here, the Active Case Finding Activity with Mobile Chest X-Ray was held in partnership with the Philippines Business for Social Progress.

As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against TB must not be forgotten. Today’s activities serve as a reminder that we must continue to collaborate to combat the worldwide tuberculosis epidemic.
