The United Nations Development Programme’s Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities Against Disasters and Climate Change (UNDP-SHIELD), in collaboration with the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO), has enhanced the province’s typhoon monitoring system by incorporating a predictive analytics application.

This application will monitor typhoons, landslides, storm surges, and other potential hazards, providing anticipatory actions based on identified risks.

According to Dr. Cedric Daep, head of APSEMO, the application will deliver timely advisories to the province of Albay.

“Para magkaroon tayo ng advisory, real time, timely advisory and appropriate conclusion for action. Ito na yung application na hindi na kailangan mag-compute pa,” said Daep.

The typhoon response predictive analytics consultation, conducted by UNDP-SHIELD, also involved representatives from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
