Iriga: Team Albay Relay Swimmers Dominate Palarong Bicol 2025 with Multiple Golds

Legazpi City-Team Albay’s swimming contingent showcased their dominance in the Palarong Bicol 2025 relays, securing gold medals in both the 4x50m and 4x100m relay events in the secondary girls’ division. The powerhouse team, composed of Sophia A. Guariña (PGCHS), Kheen Borromeo (Bonga National HS), Dorothy Salcedo Calisin (Ponso National HS), and Vishnupriya Dasi Briguera (Bonga National HS), demonstrated exceptional teamwork and speed, outpacing competitors from across the region.

Sophia A. Guariña, a Grade 11 STEM student from Polangui General Comprehensive High School, played a key role in the relay victories while also excelling in individual events. She clinched gold in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 50m butterfly, securing a spot in the Palarong Pambansa. Alongside Guariña, Kheen Borromeo, a Grade 12 student from Bonga National High School, dominated the breaststroke events, winning gold in the 50m and 200m breaststroke in addition to her relay golds. She also met the Qualifying Time Standard (QTS) for Palarong Pambansa.Meanwhile, Dorothy Salcedo Calisin, a 14-year-old Grade 8 swimmer from Ponso National High School, proved that age is just a number as she powered through the relays to help secure double golds for Team Albay. Vishnupriya Dasi L. Briguera, the team’s anchor swimmer, delivered an outstanding performance, finishing the 4x50m relay in 2:13 and the 4x100m relay in 5:16, ensuring victory for the team. She also excelled in individual events, winning gold in the 400m long-course freestyle and silver in the 100m long-course freestyle, also meeting the QTS for Palarong Pambansa.With their dominant relay performances and stellar individual finishes, Team Albay has cemented its reputation as a swimming powerhouse in Palarong Bicol 2025. Their success not only brings pride to their schools and SDO Albay but also sets the stage for an exciting campaign at Palarong Pambansa 2025.
