In a swift and coordinated operation, four individuals were arrested for violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives), and the Omnibus Election Code following reports received by PNP Bicol.
At around 10:00 AM on May 11, 2025, the Daraga Municipal Police Station received information regarding alleged armed individuals spotted at the residence of Punong Barangay Lomerio of Brgy. San Vicente Grande, Daraga, Albay. According to PLTCOL EDGAR AZOTEA, COP, Daraga MPS, they swiftly mobilized a composite team of the Police Intelligence Unit (PIU), 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), the SWAT Team of Albay PPO, and the 31st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (31st IB, PA) to respond to the report.
While traveling to the area, they intercepted four suspects who were seen carrying firearms. The individuals were identified as alias Fernando, Ryan, Noli, and Tirso, all residents of Sorsogon. A search of their belongings led to the seizure of multiple firearms and explosives, which included five units of caliber .38 revolvers, one unit of caliber 9mm Ingram, one hand grenade, assorted ammunition, one magazine for Ingram loaded with ammunition, one backpack containing personal belongings, and two sling bags with identification cards and personal items. The arrested suspects were brought to Daraga MPS for further investigation and proper documentation.
PNP Bicol urges the public to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious activities that may compromise peace and security, especially during the election period. People are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to prevent the illegal possession of firearms and explosives, as well as other election-related crimes.
Moving forward, PNP Bicol is committed to intensifying its police visibility and patrol operations in the entire region to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety. Coordination with local government units and community leaders will be strengthened to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response capabilities. Further investigations are underway to determine if the suspects are linked to larger criminal groups or politically motivated activities.
