With the looming threat of super typhoon Nando, the PNP Bicol, under the leadership of PBGEN NESTOR C BABAGAY JR., Regional Director, has activated its Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF), Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams, and the Critical Incident Monitoring Team (CIMAT) effective September 20, 2025.
A total of 251 personnel, composed of 182 RSSF and 69 SAR, are on standby to provide immediate assistance as weather conditions worsen.
In addition, the CIMAT has been mobilized to monitor and validate real-time incidents on the ground, ensuring that critical information is immediately relayed to unit commanders. This will allow for faster coordination and deployment of resources where they are most needed, as well as more efficient response during emergencies.
PBGEN Babagay Jr. also directed all unit commanders to prepare logistical resources and equipment essential for typhoon operations. He emphasized the need for close coordination with local government units and the Municipal/City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (M/CDRRMO) to ensure timely and effective response actions.
“From preemptive evacuation to search and rescue, your PNP will exert every effort to minimize the impact of super typhoon ‘Nando’ on the lives of our kababayan,” PBGEN Babagay Jr said.
He likewise appealed to the public to exercise personal preparedness and heed advisories to avoid casualties, stressing that cooperation with authorities is crucial in times of disaster.
The Regional Director also underscored that the welfare and safety of PNP personnel remain a top priority. Before deployment, all responders will be provided with proper protective equipment. Unit commanders have also been instructed to closely monitor the condition of their personnel and implement deployment rotations when necessary.
Furthermore, contingency measures are already in place, including the provision of medical teams and relief supplies for PNP personnel, to ensure that they can continue fulfilling their duties without compromising their own well-being. ###
