The Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) of Iriga City underwent a two-day capability training from December 10 to 11 at Mai’s Hotel and Resort, Bacon, Sorsogon.
The event, spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by Ms. Maridel C. Verrosa, RSW, aimed to strengthen the council’s functionality and enhance its efforts to safeguard children’s rights.
Among the participants was Mayor Rex Oliva, chairperson of the LCPC, underscoring the local government’s dedication to championing the well-being of Iriga’s youth.
The first day of the training focused on critical topics, including the Functionality of Local Councils for the Protection of Children, Anti-Trafficking: CSAEM and OSAEC, and the Salient Features of Laws for Children. These sessions were led by esteemed speakers, including Sheilame Villar, LGOO VII and Cluster Head of DILG Camarines Sur, as well as Prosecutors Roberto M. Jocom Jr. and Cicero V. Malate.
On the second day, participants engaged in a comprehensive discussion and the crafting of a Child Protection Policy for Iriga City, facilitated by Ana Marie B. Binamira-Telimban, Regional Coordinator of the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) in Bicol.
This training underscores Iriga City’s commitment to creating a safer and more nurturing environment for its children by equipping its local council with the knowledge and tools necessary to address pressing issues affecting child welfare.
