In response to the ongoing forest wildfire crisis at Mt. Asog, the Incident Management Team held a crucial briefing session earlier today. Led by Mayor Rex Oliva and City Administrator Maharlika Ramon Oaferina II, the meeting convened key stakeholders, including the Iriga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) team, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iriga, Environment, Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO) Camarines Sur, and various other agencies and organizations. The primary objective of the briefing was to coordinate efforts aimed at mitigating the potential loss of lives, preventing further damage to properties, and safeguarding the environment.

Among the strategies discussed, the establishment of fire lanes emerged as a critical focus. These cleared strips of land are strategically positioned to impede the spread of flames, serving as vital barriers against the advancing wildfire. By creating a buffer zone devoid of combustible vegetation, fire lanes facilitate safer access for firefighting personnel and provide crucial evacuation routes for residents in affected areas, thereby enhancing overall containment efforts and minimizing the risk to both lives and property.

The concerted efforts of these teams underscore a collaborative approach to crisis management, prioritizing the safety and well-being of both residents and the natural habitat of Mt. Asog. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with emergency response efforts. Together, with effective coordination and swift action, the Incident Management Team remains dedicated to minimizing the impact of the wildfire and ensuring the protection of all affected communities and ecosystems.
