Full security preparations are now underway in Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) to ensure a safe, orderly, and meaningful observance of the Lenten season from February 18 to April 2, 2026.

In anticipation of the influx of churchgoers, pilgrims, travelers, and tourists during the Lenten period, PRO 5, headed by PBGEN Erosito N Miranda, RD, has intensified its security operations across the region. Additional PNP personnel are being deployed to major public areas, transport terminals, tourist destinations, and places of worship, including churches and mosques, to strengthen police visibility and prevent the occurrence of opportunistic crimes.

A comprehensive security plan has been activated covering major transport hubs such as bus terminals, seaports, and airports, as well as pilgrimage sites, commercial establishments, and other high-traffic areas. Police Assistance Desks and Motorist Assistance Desks will be established near major cathedrals and churches and in key convergence areas. These desks will be manned 24 hours a day to provide immediate assistance, respond to emergencies, and address public concerns.

Real-time security adjustments will be implemented based on continuous monitoring, intelligence reports, and situational assessments on the ground. PRO 5 is closely coordinating with local government units, religious leaders, force multipliers, and event organizers to ensure proper crowd management and the smooth conduct of all religious activities.

Strategic checkpoints will also be established in the region to deter criminal elements, intercept illegal firearms and contraband, and enhance overall public safety. These checkpoints aim to prevent lawless individuals from disrupting Lenten-related activities and to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. All checkpoint operations will strictly adhere to PNP operational procedures and uphold respect for human rights.

Police visibility will be further intensified through foot patrols, mobile patrol units, and motorized patrol teams deployed in major thoroughfares and areas of convergence. Continuous anti-criminality operations will be carried out to thwart any attempts by lawless elements to exploit the season. Sustained campaigns against illegal drugs, loose firearms, and other criminal activities will remain a priority throughout the Lenten period.

PBGEN Miranda emphasized the importance of public cooperation during the observance.

“We want our kababayans to observe the Lenten season peacefully and without fear. PRO 5 has put in place all necessary security measures to ensure that our churches, transport terminals, tourist destinations, and other public areas remain safe. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Through our collective effort, we can guarantee a solemn and secure Lenten season for all,” he said.

Guided by the mantra, “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman,” PRO 5 reaffirms its commitment to delivering fast, honest, and responsive police service to the public.

Authorities encourage the public to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to safety regulations throughout the Lenten period. Through shared responsibility and strong community partnership, PRO 5 remains confident that the observance of Lent will be peaceful and orderly.
